Garden Updates: Spring Planting and Preparations April 24, 2025 – Posted in: 2025
As the seasons change here at Ahimsa Eco Farm, our gardens are bustling with activity, preparing for a bountiful year ahead. Here’s a glimpse of what we’re working on:
Seed Sowing in our Biodigester Poly Tunnel
Our indoor sowing process is in full swing within the biomass poly tunnel. This controlled environment allows us to kickstart our crops, ensuring they have a strong beginning at this early stage of the year.
Direct Seed Sowing
With the outdoor climate becoming more favorable, we are directly sowing seeds such as carrots, radishes, lettuce, kale, and other brassicas. This mix of cool-season crops ensures we will have a continuous and diverse harvest.
Tomato Trials
We’ve started planting out tomatoes, both in the poly tunnels and outside. This year, we’re excited to run trials on more hardy varieties, potentially widening our selection for future seasons. We’re keen to see how these robust strains will fare in diverse conditions.
Diversifying with Potatoes and Gourds
In our fields, five different types of potatoes have been planted, promising an exciting variety of this staple crop. Additionally, we are in the process of developing a dedicated gourd bed and tunnel, allowing us to explore this versatile vegetable.
Sustainable Fertilization with Good Gardeners Compost Boxes
Our commitment to sustainable farming practices is reflected in the way we prepare our fertilizer. We’re using the innovative compost boxes from Good Gardeners. These eco-friendly composting systems speed up the fertilization process, transforming garden waste into nutrient-rich compost, crucial for our soil health. You can explore more about these sustainable gardening solutions on their website.
These initiatives are part of our ongoing effort to enhance productivity while maintaining harmony with nature. We look forward to sharing our progress and the results of our trials with you as the season unfolds.
